The FBI, along with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Criminal Investigation Division and Coast Guard Investigative Services, boarded a vessel called the Maersk Saltoro, managed by the same company as a cargo ship that caused the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge. The cargo ship, named the Dali, struck a support pillar of the bridge, causing it to collapse and resulting in the deaths of six construction workers. The National Transportation Safety Board reported that the Dali experienced power losses before the incident, leaving it without propulsion to steer away from the bridge. The companies that own and manage the Dali are based in Singapore. In a lawsuit filed by the U.S. Justice Department, it was alleged that the companies ignored electrical problems on the Dali, leading to the crash. The FBI did not provide further details on the nature of their law enforcement activities on the Maersk Saltoro. Attempts to contact the owner and operator of the vessel as well as other agencies involved in the investigation were unsuccessful. The incident is under investigation, and authorities are looking into possible negligence on the part of the companies managing the vessels.
