The third edition of Al Jazeera Documentary Industry Days is currently taking place during the Al Jazeera Balkans Documentary Film Festival in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The event aims to connect decision-makers with promising documentary projects that tell inspiring human stories and address pressing social issues while promoting universal human values. With 80 experts evaluating and supporting the projects, the event also fosters cultural exchanges and a deeper understanding of different perspectives.
One of the highlighted projects is titled The Other Gaza, which follows the story of Wafa Jamil, a resident of Stockholm with family in Gaza. Inspired by the conflict in the Palestinian territory, Jamil aims to show her eight-year-old daughter a different side of Gaza through her project. The event, moderated by Rudy Buttignol, has seen an improvement in project quality each year, maintaining an intimate atmosphere for networking and building connections within the industry.
The director of Al Jazeera Documentary Channel, Ahmed Mahfouz, emphasized the network’s commitment to supporting the documentary industry and bringing about social change through storytelling. Adel Ksiksi, director of Al Jazeera Documentary Industry Days, highlighted the growth of the event, which has shortlisted 29 projects out of nearly 270 proposals from filmmakers and producers across North Africa, the Arab world, Southeastern Europe, and the Caucasus. These projects will be divided into different categories, showcasing the diversity, creativity, and dedication of documentary filmmakers worldwide.
