A 14-year-old named Colt Gray, who had been previously investigated for online threats, was charged as an adult for fatally shooting four people at Apalachee High School in Georgia. The teen’s father, Colin Gray, was also arrested on charges related to allowing his son to possess a weapon. The teen had shown interest in prior mass shootings and had been interviewed after the FBI received a tip about online threats to commit a school shooting. However, the case was ultimately cleared due to inconsistencies in the investigation, and the authorities did not arrest the teen at that time. The teen had also denied making online threats and expressed concern that he was being falsely accused. Despite being aware of the previous investigation, the teen was enrolled in a new school in Barrow County, where the shooting occurred on his second day. While law enforcement officials believe they followed proper procedures in handling the previous investigation, some, like 15-year-old Isaiah Hooks, believe that more should have been done to prevent the tragedy at the high school. Hooks expressed frustration that the teen was allowed to be near a school despite authorities knowing of his potential for violence.
