Fast food giant McDonald’s has announced its biggest expansion plan in the UK and Ireland in over two decades, with the creation of around 24,000 new jobs and the opening of more than 200 new restaurants. This investment of around £1bn will be driven by franchisees who currently operate around 80% of McDonald’s outlets in the UK. The company plans to introduce innovative business models such as “drive-to” restaurants and smaller outlets while also focusing on upgrading existing restaurants and expanding on high streets.
Alistair Macrow, CEO of McDonald’s UK and Ireland, expressed his excitement for the company’s growth and commitment to the community as they open new opportunities for job seekers and continue to provide value for customers. Additionally, McDonald’s has made significant contributions to the UK economy, spending over £2bn with local farmers and suppliers and supporting over 200,000 jobs across the country.
Despite these positive developments, McDonald’s has faced challenges with a worldwide drop in sales, attributed to lower demand in China and boycotting in the Middle East due to geopolitical tensions. However, the company remains optimistic about its future growth and the impact it can have on local economies. With its ambitious expansion plans, McDonald’s is set to make a significant mark in the fast-food industry in the UK and Ireland.
