The Secret Service is planning to use ballistic glass to protect former President Donald Trump during outdoor campaign events following a failed assassination attempt. This type of glass is typically used to protect sitting presidents and vice presidents and is transported by military aircraft. However, as a candidate and former president, Trump does not have access to this military transportation support. The ballistic glass will now be prepositioned around the country and moved in by agents to ensure Trump’s protection during outdoor events, particularly when there are security concerns at specific sites. In addition to the ballistic glass, the Secret Service is also increasing manpower and technology to mitigate threats around Trump during rallies, as well as implementing more frequent threat analysis and prevention measures. The decision to enhance security measures comes after a gunman fired at Trump during an outdoor rally in July, injuring Trump and two rallygoers and killing one other person. Former Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle has stated that the protective details for presidential candidates are being strengthened in response to the incident. Trump has not held an outdoor campaign event since the attempted assassination.
