Qatar’s top intelligence official, Abdullah bin Mohammed al-Khulaifi, has been awarded the George Tenet medal from the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) for his role in strengthening intelligence cooperation between Qatar and the United States. CIA Director Bill Burns presented al-Khulaifi with the award in recognition of his efforts to maintain national and regional security in the Gulf region. The award also acknowledged al-Khulaifi’s exceptional support in preserving the interests and security of both countries.
The Qatari State Security Agency, led by al-Khulaifi, works closely with the CIA in counterterrorism efforts to prevent and thwart threats and attacks in the Middle East. The partnership between the two agencies has been instrumental in enhancing intelligence work and ensuring the safety of both nations.
Qatar’s relationship with the US dates back decades, with Qatar hosting the US Air Force base at Al-Udeid. The award ceremony for al-Khulaifi took place earlier this week, although official statements from both the CIA and the State Security Agency have yet to be released.
The George Tenet medal, named after the former CIA chief who served from 1996 to 2004, highlights the importance of collaboration between intelligence agencies in addressing security challenges. Through this recognition, al-Khulaifi’s contributions to strengthening intelligence ties and enhancing regional security have been acknowledged by the CIA.
