Wallace “Wally” Amos, the cookie mogul who created the Famous Amos cookie empire, has passed away at the age of 88. He later lost ownership of the company and even the rights to his own name. Amos moved to Hawaii in 1977, where he owned a cookie shop called Chip & Cookie until his death. He passed away from complications related to dementia. Amos was a renowned entrepreneur and the founder of the world’s first cookie store. Despite his success, he struggled as a businessperson and eventually lost control of his company. He faced personal struggles after losing his business and the rights to his name. Amos was also a co-founder of Uncle Wally’s Muffin Co. and was an advocate for children’s literacy. He authored 8 books, served as a spokesperson for Literacy Volunteers of America, and gave motivational talks. Despite his challenges, Amos continued to pursue his passion for baking and launched Chip & Cookie in Hawaii. He was the first Black talent agent and was well-known for promoting reading and education. Amos left behind a legacy of entrepreneurship, advocacy, and love for baking, which his children continue to honor. His impact as an entrepreneur, advocate, and inspiring figure will always be remembered.
