A recent study conducted by food scientists in Poland has shown that ice-cream made from horse milk may have potential health benefits, such as being lower in fat and containing certain compounds that can help with stomach complaints and boost the immune system. However, the availability of horse milk for such ice-cream remains limited.
One farmer in the UK, Frank Shellard, is advocating for the benefits of horse milk and has started a horse dairy farm to supply his customers with the product. Despite the lack of conclusive scientific evidence for the therapeutic benefits of horse milk, Shellard and his customers believe in its health properties.
While the idea of horse milk ice-cream may seem unconventional, ice-cream maker Kitty Travers decided to experiment with making a batch using mare’s milk. The end result was not well-received, with Travers finding the texture and taste to be lacking. She suggested that the milk may be better used for making yoghurt drinks or other products instead.
However, a taste test conducted by Matthew Weaver showed that while horse milk ice-cream may not be everyone’s cup of tea, it had a unique flavor that was surprisingly palatable. Despite some drawbacks like the sugary sweetness and frosty texture, the ice-cream was not as unpleasant as expected.
Overall, while the idea of horse milk ice-cream may not be widely accepted, it presents an interesting opportunity for those willing to try something new in the world of frozen treats.
