Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz has accepted an invitation from CBS News to participate in a vice presidential debate against Sen. JD Vance of Ohio on Oct. 1. Walz confirmed his participation in a post on X and expressed readiness to debate Vance. The Harris campaign also confirmed acceptance of the invitation, stating that Walz looks forward to facing off against Vance if he shows up. Vance did not immediately respond to the invitation or to questions about it. CBS News had proposed four potential dates for the debate, with Oct. 1 being one of them, and said they are awaiting responses from the candidates. Former President Donald Trump had previously mentioned that his campaign had agreed to participate in a vice presidential debate on CBS News, with no specific date provided. Trump praised Vance for his performance and stated that he has done a fantastic job. Additionally, Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris have agreed to participate in a debate hosted by ABC News on Sept. 10. It remains to be seen whether Vance will respond to the CBS News invitation and participate in the scheduled debate with Walz.
