The city of Pasadena experienced a water pipe burst in City Hall due to a nearby earthquake, causing employees to evacuate temporarily. Despite this, no major damage was reported in the area. The effects of the earthquake were felt as far away as Hollywood, where buildings rattled and people felt a rocking sensation. Seismologist Lucy Jones from the California Institute of Technology compared the earthquake to the 1987 Whittier Narrows quake that caused significant damage and fatalities. It is unclear which fault specifically caused the earthquake on this occasion, as the area has multiple faults that are not visible on the surface. The National Weather Service confirmed that no tsunami was expected as a result of the earthquake.
