Israeli military issues new evacuation orders in Khan Younis Gaza City

In the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip, more evacuations were ordered in the southern city of Khan Younis following a deadly airstrike on a school-turned-shelter that killed dozens. Israel claimed to have targeted a militant command post, killing 19 fighters. The devastating war has led to the displacement of most of Gaza’s 2.3 million population multiple times, with many seeking refuge in overcrowded tent camps or schools.

The latest evacuation orders in Khan Younis, including parts of a humanitarian zone, were issued after the IDF alleged rockets were fired from the area. Palestinians in the besieged territory feel nowhere is safe, as Israel accuses Hamas of hiding among civilians and launching attacks from residential areas. The city of Khan Younis had already suffered extensive destruction earlier in the year, leading to tens of thousands of residents fleeing again after a previous evacuation order.

The war, which began in October, has resulted in a high death toll and a humanitarian crisis in Gaza, with aid groups struggling to provide assistance. Efforts to mediate a ceasefire and the return of hostages have been ongoing for months, with Egypt, Qatar, and the United States involved in negotiations. The conflict has also raised concerns of triggering a regional war, as Israel faces threats from Iran and its allies across the region.
