DirecTV is launching a new ad campaign called “For the Birds” featuring NFL star Deion Sanders to promote their streaming service. Despite being known for its satellite TV service, DirecTV wants customers to know they can watch without a satellite dish. The company found that many consumers were unaware of their streaming options, leading to a rebranding effort to emphasize the alternative to satellite dishes. The ad campaign showcases pigeons lamenting the loss of dishes, voiced by actors Henry Winkler and Steve Buscemi, to show that the service no longer requires a physical dish. Sanders, also known as “Coach Prime,” is featured in the campaign ahead of football season, highlighting DirecTV’s focus on live sports offerings. The company aims to set itself apart from competitors by offering a comprehensive live sports package on their streaming platform. Additionally, DirecTV continues to offer the “Sunday Ticket” package for businesses, although Google’s YouTube TV now holds the rights for residential consumers. Despite the changing landscape of the media industry and the rise of streaming services, DirecTV is betting on its sports offerings and streaming options to attract and retain customers.
