Lawsuit filed over copyright infringement of Trump sneaker knockoffs

The company behind Donald Trump’s new sneaker line, 45Footwear LLC, has filed a lawsuit against individuals and business entities for trademark and copyright violations related to the sale and promotion of counterfeit shoes. The defendants, who are located largely outside the U.S., are not named in the lawsuit but will be identified in a sealed document. The lawsuit seeks to prohibit the defendants from reproducing counterfeit sneakers, advertising or selling them, and operating websites related to their sales. They are also asked to pay for any profits related to the violations of trademark law, with potential damages of $2 million for each counterfeit use of the mark and $25,000 for each copyright violation. Trump’s sneaker line, which includes high-tops and laceless athletic shoes priced at $199 to $399, features the letter “T” and is not affiliated with his campaign. The lawsuit claims that counterfeit sneakers have been promoted and sold online before authentic sneakers have even been shipped and that an online fraud investigator has identified the individuals and businesses involved.
