Nebraska City’s Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts is currently showcasing an exhibition of new work by Carlie Antes titled “particulates.” The exhibition will be on display through Aug. 16, with a gallery talk scheduled for July 18 at 5 p.m. as part of the center’s monthly Third Thursday Artist Talks.
Antes, who is an assistant professor in the School of Art, Art History, and Design and 3D Foundations coordinator, is a native Nebraskan currently residing in Syracuse. Her work, which is rooted in handcraft, explores complex interpersonal relationships alongside human inventions, using physical matter to represent people, places, memories, and emotions.
Throughout her career, Antes has received several awards for her creative research, including the Dan and Barbara Howard Creative Achievement Award and the Jean R. Faulkner Memorial Art Exhibition Award. She has also taught numerous workshops incorporating hand-weaving techniques using wire as the primary medium.
The Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts, located at 801 Third Corso in Nebraska City, is open on weekdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The gallery talk on July 18 is free and open to the public, providing an opportunity to engage with Antes’ work and learn more about her artistic process. Attendees can expect a thought-provoking and visually stimulating experience at the exhibition, showcasing the talent and creativity of a Nebraska-based artist.
