The River City Juniors Navy squad from Nebraska emerged victorious at the 51st AAU Junior National Championships in Orlando, Florida, winning the 16 Club division. The team went undefeated in its division, winning 28 out of 30 sets and claiming the championship in a thrilling final against Peak Performance from Oklahoma City. Coach Deb Grafentin attributed the team’s success to their hard work and love for the game. The players, who are multi-sport athletes, showed exceptional teamwork and determination throughout the tournament.
Despite a close call in the semifinals, the Navy squad rallied to win the championship match, demonstrating resilience and skill on the court. Coach Grafentin praised the team’s chemistry and dedication to their strategy, which helped elevate their game to a higher level. The players’ commitment and belief in each other were key factors in their success at the national tournament.
Two members of the Navy squad, Tre’Sor Porter and Faith Wiechman, were named to the all-tournament team, with libero Emeline Myers earning the tournament MVP award. This victory marks the second consecutive year that a River City Juniors team has won a national title at the AAU event, showcasing the depth of talent and dedication within the club. The winning team members, representing various high schools in Nebraska, have made their state proud with their impressive performance at the highly competitive tournament.
