Ex-Nebraska player files lawsuit against coach, university in sex scandal

Former Nebraska women’s basketball player Ashley Scoggin has filed a lawsuit against the university, her former coaches, and athletic director Trev Alberts, alleging that former assistant coach Chuck Love groomed her for a sexual relationship and then kicked her off the team when their relationship was exposed. The lawsuit seeks compensatory and punitive damages for violating her civil rights and causing her pain and suffering.

Scoggin claims in the lawsuit that Love groomed her by asking her out for drinks, sending messages on SnapChat, and kissing her in a Costco parking lot. She also alleges that Love pressured her to participate in a sexual threesome and expected her to be available for sexual encounters in various locations, including in Nebraska’s athletic facilities.

The lawsuit states that the situation came to a head when teammates and practice players orchestrated a ruse at a hotel to confirm Scoggin’s presence in Love’s room the night before a game against Penn State. After the incident, head coach Amy Williams allegedly cast Scoggin as a seducer and liar, leading to her being kicked off the team and losing access to housing and physical therapy.

The lawsuit further accuses the defendants of mishandling the situation and exhibiting reckless indifference to Scoggin’s safety and constitutional rights.

Nebraska has not yet provided a comment on the lawsuit. The lawsuit was filed in federal district court in Nebraska. Scoggin, now 25, transferred to UNLV for her senior season after being kicked off the Nebraska team.
