Estonia has ratified its full membership in the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), granting companies, scientists, and teachers in the country complete access to one of Europe’s main research and scientific organizations. Previously an associate member, Estonia’s move to full membership was approved by current CERN countries in March, making it the 24th member in the organization based near Geneva.
This decision is significant for Estonia, as it eliminates any financial limitations for the country in participating in tenders and entering into employment contracts. Estonia, the first former Soviet republic to join CERN, will benefit from cooperation in fundamental nuclear research and knowledge transfer, particularly in the high-tech field.
For Estonian entrepreneurs and companies, full membership in CERN provides opportunities to participate in tenders and expand their knowledge in various fields. The membership will formally take effect after Estonia presents its letter of accession to the director-general of UNESCO. Israel is the only non-European full member of CERN, which was founded in 1954.
