Celebrities steal the spotlight as Royal Family skips first day of Wimbledon

Celebrity guests stole the spotlight on the first day of Wimbledon, as members of the Royal Family were notably absent from the prestigious event. The Royal Box was filled with an array of stars, including David Attenborough, David Beckham, Katherine Jenkins, and Alexander Armstrong. TV personalities like Alison Hammond, Lorraine Kelly, and Myleene Klass were also spotted at the tournament. However, the absence of the Royals, particularly the Princess of Wales who is currently undergoing cancer treatment, was noticeable.

Deborah Jevans, chair of the All England Club, expressed hope that the Princess of Wales would be able to present trophies at this year’s tournament but emphasized that her health and recovery are the priority. Speculation has risen about whether Kate will make an appearance at Wimbledon this month despite her ongoing treatment.

Meanwhile, King Charles, who was also diagnosed with cancer earlier this year, did not attend the event. His summer plans have been scaled back to focus on his recovery, although he is still expected to attend the Commonwealth summit in October. The Royal Box at Wimbledon, a prestigious seating area with 74 exclusive seats, has been traditionally used for entertaining friends and guests of the tournament. Wimbledon 2024 began today and will run for 14 days, concluding on July 14.
