Category 3 Hurricane Beryl Approaches Caribbean Waters

Hurricane Beryl, an extremely dangerous Category 4 storm, closed in on the southeastern Caribbean on Monday. The storm was expected to make landfall on the Windward Islands, bringing potentially life-threatening winds and storm surge. Hurricane warnings were issued for several islands in the region, including Barbados and Grenada.

Beryl was located around 70 miles east of Grenada with maximum sustained winds of 130 miles per hour. The storm was expected to move westward across the Caribbean Sea, potentially causing catastrophic wind damage and significant storm surge. Barbados had already recorded gusts of up to 45 miles per hour, with conditions expected to deteriorate further.

In preparation for the storm, Barbados opened emergency shelters and urged residents to store potable water. The worsening weather also affected travelers, including the India cricket team, who were stranded on the island after the Twenty20 Cricket World Cup final.

Forecasters warned that it was too soon to determine the storm’s path beyond the Caribbean. As Beryl moved through the region, residents were urged to listen to local government warnings and take shelter to stay safe from the dangerous conditions.
