Russian attacks on Dnipro and Vilniansk resulted in at least 11 deaths, prompting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to call for more support from allies for defense systems. The attacks, part of Russia’s ongoing offensive in eastern Ukraine, focused on vital infrastructure, including residential buildings and energy facilities. In Dnipro, one person was found dead in the rubble of a nine-story apartment building, while in Vilniansk, seven people, including two children, were killed in Russian shelling. Zelenskyy emphasized the need for air defense systems to counter Russian combat aviation, stating that only with international support could the terror be stopped.
Russian officials reported Ukrainian drone strikes in retaliation, resulting in at least five deaths in Russia’s Kursk region, including the deaths of two children. The Russian Defence Ministry reported that six Ukrainian drones had been shot down in various regions, including Crimea, which Russia annexed from Ukraine in 2014. Governor Vadym Filashkin confirmed that Russian forces had shelled populated areas in the Donetsk region multiple times.
The escalating violence underscores the urgent need for international support to prevent further casualties and damage. Zelenskyy’s plea for more defense systems reflects Ukraine’s determination to defend its sovereignty against Russian aggression. As the conflict continues to escalate, cooperation and solidarity among allies are crucial to ensuring peace in the region.
