Bronny James, son of NBA superstar LeBron James, has officially begun his college basketball career at USC. After suffering a cardiac arrest in July, the freshman guard made his debut against Long Beach State on Sunday, to a standing ovation from the sold-out home crowd. His father LeBron James, fresh off an NBA championship, was in the stands to witness the milestone moment.
In his first game, James made a chase-down block and scored his first college points with a transition 3-pointer. He also came up with a clutch steal in the final 30 seconds of regulation. Despite his efforts, the Trojans lost to Long Beach State in overtime.
Bronny James suffered a cardiac arrest in July, but after receiving treatment for a congenital heart defect, he has been cleared for a full return to basketball activities. A five-star recruit and McDonald’s All-American, James is projected as a potential first-round pick in the 2024 NBA Draft.
Looking ahead, James and the Trojans will be facing Auburn on Sunday, Dec. 17. With his debut now behind him, James will be looking to make an even bigger impact as the season progresses.
